Salerno

Located between Cilento and the area of the Amalfi Coast, Salerno is a coastal town with a historical and archeological patrimony that is worth discovering.

Pristine landscapes, blue sea and millennial history: this is what Salerno is, a city in Campania overlooking the namesake Gulf on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

A city with an ancient past, Salerno was dominated by Etruscans, Romans and Longobards, which are civilities that have left their mark on the architecture of the Historical Center.

Salerno is also known worldwide: in the XIth Century, “Scuola Medica Salernitana” saw the light, which was considered the first and most important medical institution in Europe.

Many people consider Salerno as a city of transit, especially those whose destination is Amalfi and other popular locations along the Amalfi Coast. In truth, Salerno takes pride in owning the most extraordinary historical and architectural patrimony: the city shows off a stunning Cathedral (“Duomo”) dedicated to Saint Matthew and a medieval city center that has managed to maintain its structural integrity over the years.

Nowadays, the city is renowned worldwide for the “Luci d’Artista” (“Artist Lights”) demonstration which takes place every year during the Christmas Holidays, making of Salerno the most requested destination by enchanted tourists and visitors who have the privilege to enjoy works of art made out of lights and colors.

From Salerno’s Molo Manfredi, near the maritime station, it is possible to reach prestigious destinations such as the ones on the Amalfi Coast, Cilento, Sorrento and Capri.
